49 Vintage Photos 1950s Black African American, Harlem Fashion Show
In 2005, I purchased a large group of vintage clothing that came from the estate of Jessie Laurent Harper. From what I have been able to find out about her, Mrs. Harper was a milliner who worked out of her apartment on West 124th Street in Harlem. She designed hats for herself and did special custom designs for her clients and for local fashion shows put on by Church organizations and ladies' groups. She also modeled in the local fashion shows.
This is a group of 49 photos that came with the clothing that I bought. Most photos are small but there are a few 8x10, some of which were from the fashion shows that Jessie took part in, The other photos are of family, friend's portraits, trips, church etc.
Jessie is in 3 of the 8x10s and one of the small photos that I can spot her.
The bulk of the photos are from the 1940s and 1950s, with 2 that are from 1925 and some color photos from the 1960s. There is one color photo from 1970s of one of Jessie's hats.
The small photos are all in very good condition, some may have very minor wear from years of storage.
The five 8x10s photos are fair - 2 of them have tears and torn corners with rough edges. The others have rough edges and some bends.
