Original, Victorian mantle or capelette from the mid 1800s. It has a ribbed silk on the front and the back, trimmed with wde black silk lace that is gathered around the front and the back. The lace is lined with a thin silk. Ruffles of sil netting around the neck. The cape hooks down the front. It has fancy jet beadwork on the front and the back, some beading is fringed, some facet cut diamond shape beads, flat round beads, and beaded appliques.
Condition - The cape is in fair to good condition with flaws. The black silk lace is very dry and has many tears through it. Some tears also in the delicate silk lining. Some loose and missing beads, but no obvious empty spots. The pieces is very nice for display, but I would say that it is too delicate to wear because of the dry lace and silk lining under the lace - both tear easily.
