ERA: True vintage item from the 1940s

MEASUREMENTS: The fabric is 42 inches wide by 74 inches long (2 yards)

MATERIAL: cotton barkcloth

1940s nubby barkcloth fabric with an off white background and large flowers in shades of pink, yellow, blue and green leaves. It looks like it was once a curtain that was taken apart. 

 

CONDITION: The fabric is in fair condition 

One side edge has 1/2 inch cuts or tears that are frayed down the length of the fabric issues. 

The other side is folded but unsewn with frayed edge. This side edge also has thin wear areas with holes and the fabric around the holes is dry and tears easily. This damaged area is 2 inches wide, all down the length of the fabric.

The top of the fabric was once folded down twice to make the curtain treatment at the top. This has left behind two seam fold lines, those lines are lightly discolored on the back. The front of this area (near the top) has pink discolor in a 6+ inch area in the middle-top and another at the side-top. The pink looks like dye-run.

There are 8 frayed holes over the piece, several are down the damaged area the others in the middle. The holes are 1/2 inch to 2 inches. Plus a few small holes along the damaged edge.

The white is lightly discolored in areas.

Some of the fabric is still usable for small projects.
