Off white cotton matelassé with grid lines and round designs. The collar buttons on each side with fabric covered buttons. 3 front pockets and more fabric covered buttons. Plain cotton back with full cotton lining. Strap on the back. There is a note of provenance in a pocket 'Papas wedding vest, March 1st 1875, Wm Franklin Hudson' He married Matura Ann Hawkins in Tennessee
CONDITION: The vest is in fair condition. Off white and dull from age. The fabric is worn on 3 of the buttons. One button hole is torn and a 1+ inch chunk of fabric is torn out. There is a 1 inch hole along the edge of the lapel with a small hole through to the lining. On the side is a 2 inch hole with tears and a 1 inch hole above it. There is a 2 inch tear on one of the straps on the back. There is no buckle on the strap and a button appears to be missing. There are a few small wear holes and scattered brown age spot.
