Antique Hand Embroidered Nightgown Victorian, made in 1875, Wedding Trousseau Provenance, white cotton

ERA: True vintage item from 1875
MEASUREMENTS: the item is 54 inches long, it will fit up to a 40 inch bust with room (46 inches around the underarms) full and loose around the waist and hips. Shoulders are about 15 inches wide and sleeves are 18 inches long. 200 inches around the hem.

Antique, long white cotton nightgown with a handwritten note of provenance. Home sewn with hand embroidery. The yoke of the neck has flowers and leaves embroidered on the front and the back. Scalloped edges around the embroidered area. Scallops and embroidery on the ends of the sleeves. The gown has opening buttons all the way down the front. It has a very full body with gathers under the embroidered area.
Has a note of provenance that says - 'Hand embroidered nightgown of Matura Hawkins Hudson, wedding trousseau, March 1, 1875. Mother of Floral Hudson Livingston' Matura lived 1844 - 1912 in Tennessee and Alabama. Daughter Flora (who I believe wrote the note) lived 1877 - 1966

CONDITION: The nightgown is in very good condition. There are scattered light brown ages spots in a large area on the lower front of the gown, down the the hem. Other clusters of light brown spots on the other side, some up higher on the front of the gown and an area across the middle of the gown. There is a 1 inch tear at the back of the neck. Next to it are two old repair lines that are 3 inches and 1-1/2 inches long. There is a 1 inch tear on the inner fabric in the same spot. 1 tiny button from the embroidered area on the front is missing.
