Vintage Boy's Knickers, Short Pants, Black Herringbone Wool, 1920s, unworn but damaged
ERA: True vintage item from the 1920s maybe earlier
MEASUREMENTS: the knickers are 20 inches long, 9 inch rise, 12 inch inseam, 12-1/2 inches across the waist laying flat
MATERIAL: wool
LABEL: paper label with 'Age 10"
CLEANING: as found, they have not been washed
Boy's wool knickers are black and light color herringbone pattern weave. Button fly, front pockets, no back pocket. There are no belt loops. The pants have button holes on the cotton inside of the waist, so they would have buttoned to a shirt. Fitted at or below the knees with 2 adjustable buttons. Button fly, unlined.
CONDITION: Unworn, the paper tag is still attached. But the wool has allover wear to the surface. It appears to be a breakdown of the fabric where the black is wearing off, showing areas of lighter fabric. I don't see any holes when I hold the pants up to the light. There are also several brown age spots or stains. Some fine fibers come off of the pants when handling.
